What Is A Play By Mail Game? (PBM)?

A Play-By-Mail is a multi-player game using the postal system, allowing players from all over the world to participate with each other and the computer system.

A 'Turnsheet' allows them to make the following decisions, which the players complete before returning it to us by the stated turn deadline. The data is then processed and the results of your selections are returned to you which help you to aim to be the best team in your division, league if not the world!

How Much Does It Cost?

A turn costs £1:80 for your main side and any other sides you may manage will cost and extra £1:00 each. Special offers on lower division sides are always available; such offers are stated on request or in the games newsletters. Games 1&2 currently charge £1:50 for extra sides, but ALL other games are just £1 each. If unsure contact us for clarification.

Turns are on a fortnightly basis, you can order extra-printouts which give you extra information to help you to manage your side(s) successfully. These extra-printouts are charged extra, a full price list is stated later on in this rulebook.

HOW DO I PAY?

Due to trouble with the OlympiaPBM bank account, payments involving cheques/postal orders should be made payable to 'T.DEXTER'. We DO NOT accept responsibility for any lost payments and turns through the post. If something is lost then just contact us and something can be sorted out. In an attempt to keep down ever increasing bank charges we ask you to send payments of at least £5:00 at a time. This benefits you as it means we can keep turn fees as low as possible. A surcharge of £1:00 may be added for payments under this amount.

ON-LINE PAYMENT: You can pay on-line via PayPal to our email address. Minimum payment of £10 is required (£1 admin fee may be charged if under £10), state your account number with payment. A full payment procedure is available via the website.

Please DO NOT send coins through the post and make sure you note the amount of payment enclosed on the space provided on your Turnsheet.

LATE PAYMENT: If you owe money going into a new turn and payment is received after the stated turn deadline then an administration fee of £1:00 will be charged. Late payments could mean you risk losing your side(s) to another manager. Always make sure there is enough credit in your account to cover all costs for the coming turn.

What is the season’s structure…?

ALL divisions have 12 sides in them; each side plays each other home and away over a 22 week league season. The top 2 sides get promoted automatically, whilst the bottom sides will be relegated. End of season playoffs are contested between the 3rd,4th & 5th placed sides along with the 10th placed side from the division above. The four sides meet in semi-finals (over 2 legs), with the finalists meeting at a neutral venue to win a place in the division.

All sides automatically qualify for the domestic league cup competition, which is knock out from the 1st round. Other cup competition’s are based on qualification based on last season’s final places. The Super Cup is available to all sides but a small entrance fee is required and is run on a 1st round group stage basis, with knock out rounds afterwards. Each game has different cup competitions depending in the structure of the game and the wishes of the managers in that game.

How Are Players Skills Revised At The End Of A Season…?

At the end of every season all players’ skill levels are revised based on real-life form over the last 12 months and the form of that player in your game of Pro-Soccer. Here is a rough guide of how this revision takes place.

Don’t forget that ALL skills are in relation to all other 3,000 players in the game & comparing against just a few selected players is just not realistic case for a revision error.

Just because a player is an international or cost several million pounds does not mean they should automatically be a certain skill etc.

Here is a quick explanation on how the skill revision works!! A players skill is altered in comparison to his real-life & Pro-Soccer form over the period of the last season.

A player’s skill CANNOT go up by more than 4 points or any higher than 75 skill (whatever is the higher).

A player’s skill CANNOT go down by more than 4 points or any lower then 75 skill (whatever is the lower).

NOTE: The more under-rated players you have the LESS likely that are to go up by the maximum skill levels. The top sides will not also lose out as they are unlikely to give under-rated as much of a chance in the first team. The only way to increase a player’s skill between now and the end of the season is to pay for a skill increase up to a maximum of 79 skill. See rulebook for details. DON’T FORGET that revisions now also take into consideration if a player is getting regular action in either first team or the reserves. A player not playing will NOT necessarily go up by the usual amount.

If I Have Any Problems How Do I Get In Touch…?

Here is a reminder of how to get in contact about anything to do with Olympia Games. Please stick to the hours stated wherever possible to avoid confusion.

If you want specific information about teams, players etc then please call the Office Line during the evenings, as i am more likely to be near a computer and then i can give you the formation, otherwise i cannot remember it all in my head.

Similarly if you want to give me detailed information, like deals etc ring the Office Line as i will have a computer available to enter in the information. If you ring the mobile then i might not be available to take such information etc.

I will try and reply to all questions as soon as I can. Please do not ask for me to phone you back with information. I will however send faxes, e-mails or text messages with answers etc. Just state a contact number with your enquiry. A small nominal charge maybe debited from your account.

If you want to try and ring the office line during the day you can. If i am in working i will answer the phone. If no reply you can either leave a message or try my mobile instead. This should save your phone bill a little. I only state the evening hours for the office line as i tend to be available mast days at those hours.

IMPORTANT: Please do not leave a message etc asking me to call you back. I don't ring managers about the game i will send e-mails, text messages or faxes as a response to any questions you may want answering.
