FROM: John Dickson                                            RE:  Disc Points

The current disciplinary points at the moment is 12 points and then suspended for 2 games. I would like to put forward the change of....  2 points for each booking and when a player reaches 10 points he is suspended for 2 games. That would coincide with real life of 5 bookings then suspension.

Would not effect print out on squad list as would start at 0 then go 2, 4, 6, 8, and then back to 0 for the fifth booking.

Would like to hear feedback on this.

FROM: Steve Blaby                                               RE:  Forums

Don't know if anyone else has seen that the www.playbymail.info forum is closing at the end of February. Pro-Soccer users have been by far the most pro-active on the site and therefore I feel that either a Pro-Soccer forum or an expansion of this manager views page would replace what has been an interesting and sometimes controversial forum.

Obviously a forum is going to be expensive and the running costs are going to be passed onto us managers, I am sure that with the amount of usage we gave the forum it is worth exploring to see what it would cost and I for one wouldn't mind a small subscription fee, especially as Trev has no plans for a chat room of any sort.

Interested to know other managers thoughts not just from managers who have used the forum but those who haven't yet used it as well.

FROM: Ben Flatley                                                RE:  On Line Chats.

Does the GM do any on-line chats etc?

GMS REPLY:

Basically no! Many discussions go via the forums which are run elsewhere. Use to instant message with a few managers via the Yahoo messenger via email address pbm.dexter@talk21.com. But that has dies down of late.

FROM: Sean Codman                                                RE:

We already have transfer lists for players we want to sell, but what about having loan lists for those players we want to make available for loan to other teams? Thus allowing fringe players in our squads to get first team action in other squads, or to build up young players by allowing them to play regularly in another team. Just an idea!

GMS REPLAY:

The tlist is on my radar to be updated. Possibly to include stating if a player is for swap only. Could easily add on for Loan as an option and provide one big list, Instead of several smaller ones, making it more confusing. Nothing likely very soon, but hopefully in the New year will be looking to do something along these lines.

FROM: Sean Codman                                                RE: Andrew Duggan.

I was saddened to hear of Andrew’s death. He was a good and popular manager in Olympia games and has been around the various leagues almost as long as I have! He was very competitive, fair in his deals to me and always gave me a tough match whenever 1 of my sides played 1 of his. I’ll miss you, Mate!

FROM: Jon Dickson                                                RE: Game 3, Season 1.

My first season in charge at Liverpool and Barcelona has been very good with both finishing runners-up in their respective leagues.

Liverpool finished three points behind Chelsea and Barcelona only one point less than AC Milan. I hope to challenge again and with determination and grit i could see either winning the title in the new season coming...

Dealings have been very good for both sides with help from Matthew Keegan (Ajax), Jon Wisniewski (Midd'boro & Sunderland), Lee Bridgman (German clubs) and others.

So, good luck to all in season two.

FROM: Marcus Harrison                                                RE: Skill Drop When Changing Positions.

I know positional changes result in a skill drop. Would this still be the case if you had 2 players that could swap positions? Specifically I'm on about Van Persie who's down as a midfielder and Julio Baptista who's down as an attacker. Seems a bit of a waste when Van Persie can cover most attacking positions and we know Julio Baptista is not Real Madrid's 4th choice striker, even if the press don't.

GMS REPLY:

This early on both would lose a skill. Can’t start re-writing the rules only a few weeks in. In the next bout of rule changes could amend it to 'swap' positions as it would make sense.

FROM: Matthew Keegan                                                  RE: Player Requests.

think the whole concept of scrapping private cash deals is crazy and will be a terrible thing for ProSoccer. If cash deals are slowing up, it is purely due to the existence of swap deals in the game. Why not ban all swap deals!!! If you were to ask Ferguson, Wenger, RoederJ or any of the other great managers of the premier league what form of player transfers they would wish to preserve, it would be cash deals. Swap deals are even today still rare - money makes the football world go round and should be embraced in the game. Bring back private cash deals.

GMS REPLY:

Cash deals will still happen they will just be done via the tlist. This will make sure everyone gets a fair chance of buying a player and the selling club gets what the player is worth.

FROM: Steven Beasley                                                     RE: Player Requests.

Can you sell a player request before 4 weeks without getting fined?

GM’S REPLY:

Yes, as long as you pay the signing on fee the previous turn so he is not C or R status there is no 4 week rule in play.

FROM: Jonathan.Wisniewski                                         RE: Reserves & Bids to Un-Managed sides?

In the reserve league rules you state that if you play someone in the reserves and the first team then they will drop by 25-30%. Is that at all or just if you play them for both sides in the same week? So can I play first teamers in the reserve side that are not playing for first team that week with no skill drop?

can you make transfer offers by direct bids to unmanaged teams? Do they get accepted?

GM’s REPLY:

1) If you played an 80 skill in BOTH teams he would play as a 60 skill for the reserves for that game only. He would still be an 80 skill on next squad list and for next turn matches.

2) you can bid for players at un-managed sides. Can be difficult to get them, have to bid high. There is a explanation on the website on the GMs page if that helps. (About half way down left hand column).

FROM: Pete Nield                                         RE: ProSoccerPBM Forum?

Is there any chance of a ProSoccerPBM forum like the other forum, but part of the game and the website?

GMS REPLY:

Not at the moment. But I might try and set one up during the summer. A prelim look into it would suggest it would only cost £30-£50 a year to get sufficient web hosting etc, so I may well look into it when I have more time. My web design skills are limited so would have to learn a few things so may take awhile. Forum would be about the game and real-life football. Will let you know when I have a better idea.

FROM: Jy Taylor                                          RE: Loan Deals.

Why were loan deals restricted to non-paying recall loans? A few years ago you could send a player on loan to a club for a fixed period of time and you could also charge for it. This gave the receiving club the safe knowledge that the player would be with them for 'x' amount of weeks whilst giving the selling club an incentive.

It also enabled more complex deals to be created. i.e I could swap a player for another player and the loan of a further player for 'x' number of weeks.

Would managers benefit/want this feature to return? I would suggest that you keep the 'recall loan' and free loans but also allow managers to charge for a loan if they so wish - and can get what they want. I would also welcome the return of fixed loan periods - perhaps no less than 4 weeks and no longer than 1/2 a season (or 11 weeks!).

Jy

GMS REPLY:

Why?, Simply the system was abused. Decent players were sent on long loans, then the side was dropped and the new manager had to wait for ages to get his better players.

As for loan fees it is a percentage of the players value simply because again people were abusing the system. Loaning out 77 skills players for a few million to get cash to a side.

Most loans are free which is ideal. Cannot have fixed week loans simply even if not cheating if a side becomes un-managed a new manager does not want players of his out on loan before he has even started. With Recall loans all players are automatically recalled once a new manager takes control of a side.

As always most rules etc have to be enforced because of a small minority of managers who wont play the game in the spirit it is meant. Only consolation is that these managers rarely, if at all actually win anything in the game!

FROM: Steve Blaby                                                                      RE: Cash Deals & The Tlist

Trev, Your idea about banning all cash deals and making the t-list the only all cash deals is a good one. I remember when the t-list was only done three or so times a season as an auction in the press release and you used to get some good quality players on there. The only trouble will be getting people to actually put their players on there. Its a vicious circle at the moment - I've been touting Heskey (and others) about for weeks and getting nowhere this turn I have put him on the t-list and have had several offers for him. The trouble is once I sell him what do I do with the cash? Noone else will put decent players on the list as they are scared to death they won't be able to replace them. The thing is, as there is a reserve price there shouldn't be a problem with them not getting what they want. Plus if they see a player they want, bid for them and sell someone the next turn to save the compulsary sales.

Years ago I was in another PBM where the only deals that were done were for cash and the only way to advertise your players was on the t-list and it did work well. The only problem with it is that without interaction between managers some players would be held onto at the same club forever!

FROM: Jy.Taylor                                                                         RE: Forums

have any of you visited the PBM forum that Trev has advertised on the site? I know you have!

Well why aren't you using it?

This seems a great addition to the game as managers can swap ideas, thoughts and deals. Forums work fantastically in other PBM's so why not this one?

Come on guys, make use of it!

FROM: Jy.Taylor                                                                         RE: Season 19

Congratulations to Marcus on a deserved Champions League victory and ANOTHER cfl title - as I have already told him, I intend to wrestle MY cfl crown back next year.

His victory should be yet more evidence for the 'high skill debate'. In week 2 I swapped Nedved 85 with Marcus for Tudor 82 and Totti 83. I needed the higher skilled defender for my first team and hoped that the squad depth would help me in the Champions League. Many other bosses would have shyed away from offering a good deal for an 85. Marcus didn't. As a result Nedved pops up on the final turn of the season and secures his cfl title as well as the all-important Champions League win.

I don't regret the deal - I needed to do it to ensure I would compete. My point is that too few managers would offer anything above 3 x 81 for an 85 these days. As a result the same sides win titles as they keep hold of the 84-86's. Marcus has proved a manager prepared to pay a bit, take a risk and gamble is a manager who now has a free season in prze money!

Well done mate!

FROM: DARREN DORE-WRIGHT                                          RE: Wayne Rooney

I feel i need to say something on Wayne Rooney as i see so many articles sent in i thought i would see if we could squeeze this in. Rooney i think no doubt in everyone's mind will be an all time great but at the moment he is no more than an exciting talent. People saying can he be stopped well ask the defenders in his last 2 games who man marked him out of the game Rooney is lacking the experience to figure out how to shake these men off. In time yes he will learn how to lose a marker and maybe become a 20 goals a season forward. So until he has matured in to the striker we all expect no more talk of how great he is let's wait and see when trophies are sitting on his shelf with a golden boot taking centre stage. If anyone feels any different let me know.

And one last whinge why are the news papers getting so excited that we beat a second rate welsh side and a very ropey azibajhan outfit so what is was windy and rainy so what's the southcoast like and Teesside but they get it week in week out we all know we can get through these group stage's because there is no one to challenge england lets be fair we gave most teams a head start we played the clown David James in goal we could only go one worse by playing Jens Lehmen. Again a side with a lot of promise but no delivery..........

FROM: DARREN DORE-WRIGHT                                          RE: Favourite Player

Tommy my boy take away tu from your best player and you got the Q.P.R. squad i took a bit of stick in the game when i sold Danny Shittu for a can of iron bru and a packet of love hearts. See your point's on defenders where would Chelsea be now if it wasn't for John Terry a few points shorter i would say. But as for the best player who can do stuff with a ball no other can ZIDANE one word describes him MAGIC two words would do it better but this a family web site.

And Mr Penil as i am the Q.P.R. manager in the game i have a few Super Hoops you may be interested in (i will add supporters tax on there value). my final words just think back to champions league final the most pressure ever and zidane's volley as if it was a kick around in the park

FROM: TOM PENIL                                                                     RE: Favourite Player

This is not really about my favourite player but more of an enquiry into why defenders and goalkeepers never really come into the reckoning when people talk of great players of the past and present! WHY?
There also seems to be something against these equally gifted footballers when it comes to giving out player of the year awards for european and
domestic leagues. Recently the final 35 names for european footballer of the year was released without a single defender.
Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to compare Henry and Ronaldinho with the likes of Nesta, Campbell, and Stam because i know Henry and Ronaldinho are great entertainers and fantastic footballers but why don't defenders get the credit and recognition they deserve ????
Now to who i think the best footballer on the planet is Danny Shittu QPR Centre half (COME ON YOU R'S)

FROM: JY TAYLOR                                                                     RE: Favourite Player

There's so much hype about Rooney at the moment that it's got me thinking - which other players make me stand up and take notice.

Rooney is the first for ages. Cole was exciting in his first couple of seasons at the Hammers but he had no pressure and was playing in a side where people expected very little.

Van der Vaart, Kaka and Ronaldinho I like but unfortunately don't get the time to see them enough. I do have kids at school though constantly trying to practise Ronaldinho's look one way and play another!

For me it's Davids. The guy is just simply 'The Man'. He tackles like a demon and has the biggest ego of them all but his footwork is just awesome. I love watching him and am constantly amazed at the small things he can do on a pitch. It all comes from the Nike Euro 2000 advert. You know, the one where Van Gaal sent his players into the castle to fight the ninjas and Davids wins the day with his incredible skill. I loved that ad (I was lucky enough to work for Nike at Wembly coaching kids that summer) and we practised the skills non stop.

So Davids is the man for me - who's yours and ... more intrestingly which is your favourite footie ad - I'll start you off with a classic involving Denilson and an airport in 1998!

FROM: DARREN DORE-WRIGHT                                                RE: Disc Points and Suspensions.

Now for a first to agree with a point Sir Jy Taylor is making i do try and keep big squads to cope with a season my main axe to grind is suspension point's at the end of the season.  I feel to be more realistic these should be cleared at the end of the season and then fair enough if a player reaches the maximum points then it's only fair a suspension is given but i think it should only be a game and a 2 game suspension if they are sent off and reach there maximum disciplinary points. Why also do the injuries carry over new season fresh start for all player's in my opinion.

This for Pete Neald as a manager that is at the end of your continual whinging try getting with the time's and invest in a phone or dare i say it a computer and then when i need a quick sale i can also text or e-mail you to see if you are intrusted in the player as many of us managers already do. Then i can have no complaint when you start bending my ear worse than my girlfriend.

                                                         Darren Dore-Wright

FROM: JY TAYLOR                                                RE: Disc Points and Suspensions.

"I have an axe to grind! Possibly because it's gonna cost me the SAFL title but it's an issue that's been bugging me for a while - I'm only mentioning it now because Ray's gonna pip me to that elusive SAFL championship once more!

Suspension and injuries! I have a 1st and reserve team squad that includes 8 df and a defensive utl - you'd think that was adequate! Wrong!!! I now have a situation where I can field only 2 defenders and a player loaned to my reserves who is a 74! I am 2 points clear at the top of the SAFL and in the semi-finals of the champions league (admittedly 2 of those out can play in the CL as they are suspended).

Some of you will say that I should have been more careful and got in more defenders - maybe that's the case. But I thought 8 would be enough! My issue is this - how can it be right for players who get suspended for 12 points to miss 3 games (I think that's what it is). Even so I have players - Figo who have had 2 injuries and a suspension this season and therefore have only played 1/4 of the games available - that's unrealistic.

Can something been done about this? Can the numbers of games to be missed be dropped or - and I think this is probably the most sensible - can discipline points be cleared at the end of the season? Why is this not done already? It means, therefore, that everyone starts the season on an even footing.

Maybe I'm just moaning coz I can see the one title I need slipping from my grasp but does anyone disagree?

Jy

FROM: PETE NIELD                                            RE: Game 1 Dealing, Let them get on with it.

There has been plenty of talk about managing doing deals with their mates and milking sides etc. It is killing the game for new managers to get a decent sides, I have been waiting for over a year and every time a side comes available their best younger players were sold the previous turns to mates. However other managers are also getting carried away with the high transfer prices.

For instance Norwich were doing a great job and headed the promotion chase for much of the season, then they bought tonnes of crappy overseas players from PSV (No doubt to help clear a debt) who don’t get a game and they are out of the promotion places.

I say let them get on with it and they end up missing out on promotion and title success as they seem to spend so much time bailing each other out of massive deals they cant really afford £30 million+ for Wiltord to a side that probably cant afford him and won get promotion, interesting if Lisbon benefit from this lucky wind fall. Doubt it. Only 3 or 4 sides can really afford such prices ie: Fedinand, Ballack etc and the rest are playing above their weight. I cant afford it so I don’t get involved there are enough bargains and decent deals to be done and I have got Watford from the BFL4 to BFL1.

I suggest we let Trev stop the cheating managers by changes to deal rules etc and managers stop moaning so much (including myself!) and if managers want to go silly and pretend there are top managers in the lower divisions then let them.
