Sides Unable To Close Gap On City

 

            Most of the chasing BFL sides were unable to close the gap on league leaders and title favourites Manchester City this turn as most of the major players in this seasons BFL title race all won their games to keep Man City seven points ahead of Chelsea in the league standings with just three games left in the league season.

            A 3-0 win at Everton means that Man City could clinch the league title as early as next turn, if results go their way thanks to goals from Xavi, David Villa and Angel Di Maria this turn. The win means they maintain their comfortable seven point lead over Chelsea.

            Chelsea did their best to keep the pressure on the coasting league leaders with a good away win of their own. They came through with three points after a 3-1 win at Spurs to move into second position in the standings and into the Champions league qualification places.

            The change in second place was due to Liverpool’s loss at Reading they went down 2-1 on the road thanks to goals from Celio Lucio and Miroslav Klose. The loss despite a goal from Stewart Downing means they slip down to fourth place as they are overtake by Chelsea and Man United.

            Man United move into third place, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference as they overcame Arsenal at home with a 2-0 win. Michae Essien and Mesut Ozil got the goals to give United an outside chance of at least a Champions league place in what has been a disappointingly inconsistent season for the pre season favourites.

            Arsenal due to their loss at Old Trafford were unable to close the gap between themselves and the tp four teams after their good run of form recently. They have a four point gap to overhaul if they are to catch Liverpool and the weeks are running out for teams to make moves up the standings before the week 22 fixtures end the season.

            F.C Porto put the pressure on Euro league leaders Bayern Munich with a 3-1 win at Lyon this turn, a challenge that the German league leaders coped with admirably with a home win over Juventus to keep their three point lead at the top of the table.

            Didier Drogba and Thomas Muller were on the scoresheet for the German side in front of their own fans to defeat Juventus and stay on top of the table on their own. Porto did their best to close the gap at the top and regain their league leadership by beating their French hosts with goals from Nigel De Jong, Dimitar Berbatov and Sergi Busquets.

            A.C Milan lost ground in the top two and end the turn in fourth place after going down to a 3-0 defeat at Ajax.  The win ais the Dutch side in their bid to avoid the drop and the win takes them two points clear of Werder Bremen and into the playoff places. Goals from Perrotta. El Hamdoaui and Tomas Rosicky for Ajax dented the hopes of the Italian side of winning the league this season.

            Compatriots AS Roma stay ahead of AC Milan in third place with a 2-2 draw with former champions and compatriots Parma, but the two dropped points means they are now three points off second placed Porto in the race for at least a top two finish for the Romans.

            Inter Milan complete the top five teams in the league as they held off defending champions Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw in the San Siro. Goals from Coutinho and Candreva for the home side means the Italians keep their four point advantage over their Spanish visitors and with it on course for a top five finish, potentially preventing the Spanish giants of a top five finish to their unsuccessful league title defence.

 

Transfer List Review:

 

                David Villa signs for AC Milan in a £45 million deal. Spurs get keeper Tim Krul for £11.5 million, whilst Luis Fabiano is off to Atlletico Madrid for £18 million.

                Wing back Matt Taylor signs for Paris Saint Germain in a deal valued at £8 million.
